201 - BUSINESS COMMUNICATIONS

This course is designed to help students develop effective communcation skills, both written and verbal. The objective of this course is to enable students to succeed in academic, personal, and professional settings. Communications will focus on developing critical listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills through various activities.
202 -INTRO TO BUSINESS

The purpose of this course is to equip students with the basic understanding of the world of business. Emphasis on real world opportunities, the role of government, the impact of technology, entrepreneurship/partnership/corporations, business ethics, human resource management, the global economy, and much more. Students will learn to establish business goals and create a plan to meet them. This course provides a solid foundation for dealing with the ever changing business world.
203 - COMPUTER SCIENCE ESSENTIALS

Prerequisites: Algebra I with a “B” or better, or a B or higher in Coding for Beginners
One Credit. One Year.
The CodeHS Introduction to Computer Science curriculum teaches the foundations of computer science and basic programming, with an emphasis on helping students develop logical thinking and problem solving skills. Once students complete the CodeHS Introduction to Computer Science course, they will have learned material equivalent to a semester college introductory course in Computer Science and be able to program in JavaScript. This course will cover a number of topics including, but not limited to: how computers operate, how data is sent elecctronically, algorithmic problem solving, web page development, object oriented programming concepts, basic 3D game development concepts, programming light sequences using Arduinos, and developing games for the HTML 5 canvas.
204 - BUSINESS & MARKETING STRATEGIES

This course delves into the multifaceted world of business marketing, accounting, graphic design, and economics. Throughout this comprehensive class, students will gain an extensive understanding of various marketing concepts encompassing social media, print, SEO, content marketing, and online marketing, all of which drive the contemporary business landscape. This course also covers essential accounting principles, from business structures and operating budgets to financial statements, payroll, and taxes, with hands-on experience using accounting software such as QuickBooks. Upon completion of this course, students will have a greater understanding in regards to all areas of business.
205 - BUSINESS OPERATIONS

Prerequisites: Intro to Business and Business & Marketing StrategiesOne Credit. One Year.
An essential exploratory business class for both entrepreneurs (own your own business) and students thinking about pursuing any Business Major after high school. Accounting is the language of business, yet can be used for personal use as well. This course covers the basics of keeping accurate records of all business transactions, how each transaction affects the businesses profit margin, how to pay your employees, and how to show depreciation on capital equipment to name a few topics covered. This course will also cover career paths such as Bookkeeping, Tax Accounting, Payroll Processing, Certified Public Accountant and Accounting Controls just to name a few.

206 - FINANCIAL LITERACY

Prerequisites: None.
½ Credit. One Semester.
Under Ohio law, students entering 9th grade on or after July 1, 2022, must earn one half credit of financial literacy as a graduation requirement. Financial Literacy is defined as the ability to read, analyze, manage and communicate about personal financial conditions that affect one's material well-being. It includes the ability to discern financial choices, discuss money and financial issues without (or despite) discomfort, plan for the future and respond completely to life events that effect everyday financial decisions, including events in the general economy.
COTC206 - COTC FINANCIAL LITERACY
Grades 10, 11, 12
Prerequisites: COTC application approval and principal/counselor recommendation.

COTC: Course BUS208 (3 semester college credits)
This course covers all of the essential personal finance topics necessary to become financially capable. Topics include banking, credit, budgeting, investing, career, paying for college, and more. It is aligned with Ohio's Financial Literacy standards. By the end of this course, students will have a thorough understanding of personal finance topics and be prepared to handle the financial responsibilities that exist after gradutation.
207 - CODING FOR BEGINNERS
Grades 9, 10, 11, 12
Prerequisites: None.
½ Credit. One Semester.
Learn basic coding concepts using drag and drop coding blocks, HTML and CSS. This introductory course is designed for students who have an interest in learning about coding, but aren’t necessarily wanting to pursue a computer science career path. This course is also a great starting point for students not meeting the Algebra requirement for the Into to Computer Science course.
208 - COMPUTER SCIENCE INTERNSHIP (MV STAT)
Grades 9, 10, 11, 12
Prerequisites: Teacher recommendation and approval.
½ Credit. One Semester.
In this hand-on course, students will learn the skills needed to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair desktop computers and chromebooks, while gaining valuable experience in maintaining the student chromebooks for the entire school district. Students will develop expertise in hardware and software diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance, ensuring that devices remain functional and efficient for students and staff.
Students will gain real-world experience by managing the high school repair center, handling device check-ins, performing repairs, documenting issues, and returning devices to service.
209 - ADVANCED CS - GAME DEVELOPMENT
Grades 10, 11, 12
Prerequisites: Computer Science Essentials or a B or higher in Coding for Beginners
½ Credit. One Semester.
This course will use game development and the C# language to build on skills learned in the Computer Science Essentials course. While the focus is on game development, students will learn the process of designing, developing and maintaining all types of software applications. Students will learn industry standard programming language constructs to write programs that integrate classes, class methods, and class instances. Students will learn input method handling, animation, collision detection, games physics, basic artifical intelligence and more.
211 - COMPUTER SCIENCE EXPLORATION I
Grades 10, 11, 12
Prerequisites: Computer Science Essentials.
½ Credit. One Semester.
This semester course is for students who have taken Computer Science Essentials and are ready to further their knowledge in computer science concepts. The course is set up as a self-directed course where students can choose modules that are of interest to them and complete them in whatever order they want. Learning modules include, but are not limited to: Programming in Python, backend web development using PHP and MySQL, 3D modeling using Blender, Interactive Arduino Projects, Advanced Game Development and CyberSecurity. Certification options may be available as well if there is enough interest.
212 - COMPUTER SCIENCE EXPLORATION II
Grades 10, 11, 12
Prerequisites: Computer Science Exploration I
½ Credit. One Semester.
This course is a continuation of Exploration I. Students will be expected to choose modules not yet completed in Exploration I, or present an individual learning plan that is approved by the instructor.

213 - ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Grades 11, 12
Prerequisites: Business Operations
½ Credit. One Semester.
This course is designed to introduce students to the world of small business ownership and management. Students will build skills in all facets of entrepreneurship including idea generation, product creation, branding, and marketing, developing relationships, sales, etc. This course will be hands-on, as students will be directly involved in operating a small business within Mount Vernon High School. The variety of activities involved in this course will provide students with the basic skills necessary to be successful in a constantly evolving environment.
