Music

Inspiring Voices, Uniting Hearts

Offering a rich, inclusive curriculum with diverse performance ensembles and music courses that inspire students to develop their skills, deepen their understanding, and enrich our community through music.

The MVHS Music Department believes that all students should have access to a quality music education.  Our goal is to provide a curriculum that includes performance opportunities, music history, and music theory. We promote music as a way to enrich the lives of our students and community.

The department offers a variety of performing ensembles. There are 6 performing courses: Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Women's Chorus, Chorale, Concert Orchestra, and Symphonic Orchestra. These groups perform on a quarterly basis and consistently receive Superior and Excellent ratings at music festivals and adjudicated events. Other performing experiences include Marching Band, Jazz Band, Pep Band, and various small ensembles.

The department also offers general music education courses. The Beginning Piano Lab introduces students to the piano and basic music theory. Trends in Popular Music presents a historical discussion into the rise of popular music styles, such as rock ' n ' roll and hip hop. Music Theory teaches students about music notation and structure.
