Igniting Curiosity, Fueling Discovery

Inspiring curiosity and discovery through hands-on learning experiences that build a foundation in the sciences and prepare students for lifelong scientific understanding.

The Science Department at Mount Vernon Senior High offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to engage students in the study of biology, chemistry, physics, and environmental science. Through a combination of hands-on experiments, inquiry-based learning, and real-world applications, students develop a deep understanding of scientific concepts and principles. The curriculum encourages critical thinking and problem-solving skills, helping students explore the natural world and understand the impact of science on everyday life.

In addition to foundational courses, advanced classes like AP Biology, AP Chemistry, and Physics provide opportunities for students seeking college-level rigor and challenge. The department emphasizes collaboration, communication, and the scientific method, preparing students for success in higher education and STEM careers. Parents can expect their children to leave the Science Department with both strong content knowledge and the ability to think analytically and creatively in solving complex problems.
