Social Studies

Exploring the Past, Empowering the Future

Inspiring students to explore history, geography, economics, and government, helping them become informed, engaged citizens ready to understand and shape the world around them.

At Mount Vernon Senior High, the Social Studies Department is dedicated to helping students develop a deep understanding of history, government, economics, and geography. Parents can expect their child to engage with a variety of topics that explore the foundations of societies, the rights and responsibilities of citizenship, and the forces that have shaped the world we live in today. Through critical thinking, analysis of primary sources, and discussions about current events, students learn to connect past and present, gaining the skills to think independently and make informed decisions.

Beyond content knowledge, the department emphasizes the importance of civic engagement and global awareness. Students will explore diverse cultures, political systems, and economic principles, preparing them to participate thoughtfully and responsibly in their communities and the broader world. Parents can trust that the Social Studies curriculum at MVHS not only builds academic skills but also encourages students to become active, informed citizens equipped to navigate and contribute to a complex society.
