Career Readiness Advisor

After teaching English and communications for 32 years in a variety of assignments--Mount Vernon City Schools, Shelby City Schools, North Central State College, Ashland City Schools, and Medina City Schools--Mrs. Keaton left the English classroom in 2024 to serve Mount Vernon High School students as the  career readiness advisor. She is located directly next to the Guidance office in the main hallway and serves as part of that department. In addition to this assignment, Mrs. Keaton advises Boots and Bindings Club (Ski Club).

Mrs. Keaton acquired her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Akron and her Master of Education from Ashland University. She is licensed to teach literature, writing, speech/communications, theater, and journalism through her undergraduate degree. As a result of her Master's degree, she can teach gifted education, K-12. While specific licensure is not required for her role as a career advisor, she continues to expose herself to professional development through the Department of Education and Workforce as well as through partnerships with businesses and organizations in Knox County. She serves on the Business Advisory Committee through the Area Development Foundation's Work Dev, sits on the Knox County Connections Team, serves on the Career Quest Steering Team, and is a member of Leadership Knox, Class of 2025.
 
In June of 2024, Mrs. Keaton chaperoned 35 students alongside five MVHS staff members to Scotland, England, and Paris, and a blog showcases that trip. While Mrs. Keaton loves her profession, she most enjoys spending time with her family. Together, they support local businesses and events, spend a great deal of time on Douglas Lake in Tennessee, ski/snowboard at resorts throughout the U.S., and play in the sun in Naples, FL.
