Speech

Helping students find their voice and build confidence for the future starts right here at Mount Vernon High School.

Empowering communication. Inspiring confidence. Preparing students for life beyond graduation. The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) at Mount Vernon High School provides comprehensive speech and language services to students in grades 9–12, supporting those with communication disorders that may impact academic achievement, social interaction, vocational readiness, and post-secondary success. Through formal and informal assessments, the SLP identifies communication needs and develops, implements, and monitors Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in alignment with Ohio Department of Education guidelines and Mount Vernon City Schools policies. Services are delivered in individual and small group settings and address articulation, fluency, voice, expressive and receptive language, and social communication skills. The SLP collaborates closely with teachers, intervention specialists, school psychologists, counselors, administrators, and families to ensure coordinated support, participates in MTSS and RTI processes, and assists with transition planning for college, career, and independent living. The role also includes maintaining accurate documentation and ensuring compliance with state, federal (IDEA), and district requirements.
